If You Don’t Know How to Fix It, Stop Breaking It

Severn Suzuki, known as the ‘girl who silenced the world for 6 minutes’, was 12 years old when she spoke at the UN Earth Summit in 1992. She was 9 when her and her friends started the Environmental Children’s Organization (ECO), a group committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. It’s 20 years later and while President Obama wasn’t present at the Summit today, she was. It’s 20 years later and we’re still employing the same values. It’s 20 years later and this video has over 21,000,000 views on YouTube. Why? Well as Suzuki said in this morning’s NPR interview, ‘the world is still hungry to hear the truth.’

Daddy daughter bike ride

I was four years old when my dad attempted to teach me how to ride a bike without training wheels. No more
pink and white or fancy sparkly tassels for me. Instead, I was moving on up to a boys black BMX bike that was too big for me. Dad duck taped two small pieces of wood to the pedals so I could reach them and inevitably I fell, got upset and went back into the house. The next day I went next door to Mikey and Billy’s house determined to ride. They put me on their sister’s banana seat Schwinn Stingray and off I went and never looked back!

Thank you dad for giving me that initial push and continuing to do so today. Thank you for giving me my love of bikes. Thank you for your unconditional love. Thank you for teaching me to never give up. Thank you for going on a bike ride today even though it was my idea! Thank you for being you. Happy Father’s Day. I love you always.

Rock the Park 2 Year Anniversary feat Empire Cinema, Breakdown and Stokeswood

If you missed last Thurdsay’s Rock the Park 2 Year Anniversary show, you passed up one great show! Empire Cinema, Breakdown (with Gwan Massive) and Stokeswood put on one of the best shows yet and didn’t let the inclement weather or the lack of the usual crowd stop them from dancing their pants off. The wonderful folks at Taverna Opa in Channelside donated a delicious cake and the Sweet on the Street team from the Georgia Peach Association were there handing out the juiciest Georgia Peaches I’ve ever sunk my teeth into! For the record, I’ve eaten a peach every day since and can’t get enough. Feel free to come back and visit us anytime! Check out the photos and some of the (unedited) video of what went down. Be sure to check back later for more video clips of the Thursday night’s happenings!
